I had been anticipating this. My 26th Birthday weekend spent in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee with my boyfriend. I had found the PERFECT cabin in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, atop a winding mountain road, with views only birds should see.
My birthday is on the 6th of November, I grew up in Mississippi, went to college in Charleston South Carolina and moved to Florida right after, so I had never really experienced fall in all its glory, which is why I was beyond excited, with the pictures that kept taunting me on Instagram.
Friday, November 2, we leave Nashville TN around 3:00 PM. This is the time traffic starts in Nashville, so it took us a while to get out of the thicket - but we did! Of course we stop to get Starbucks Holiday drinks because duhhh.
The drive is suppose to take around 3 hours. Next we hit Knoxville TN traffic, whyyyy is this happening to meeee? No worries, I turned up the show tunes and sang so loud the lady in the vehicle next to us looked at me! Who cares, I am huge fan of Wicked!
We ARRIVED! Oh my goodness it is drizzling rain and so dang cold! Be careful, Kyle! This road is tiny and the roads are wet (I am a passenger seat driver if you’ve ever seen one - I admit it)
The cabin is so cute, one big room with a heart shaped jacuzzi, a balcony with a hot tub and VIEWS! (we think — we can’t see anything! Turn on the lights Kyle I stubbed my toe!)
Saturday, November 3, we get up, have breakfast of champions, cinnamon rolls and coffee, gawk at the spectacular view we have, and open presents!! Okay it’s 10AM let’s get this day started! I am sure the views in the famous state park, Cades Cove, are spectacular! Yeah, they were gorgeous, and everyone in the state of Tennessee was there, too! It took us… Wait for it… NINE HOURS!!!!!!! Nine hours we sat in the vehicle that day. Because, you drive through Cades Cove, convenient, right? Nope. We finally get down from the mountain, out of the park, and find a restaurant, because where Kyle wanted to take me didn’t take reservations, only call ahead sitting, only we didn’t even have service the whole time… Yeah… Talk about off the grid! This sounds like an awful day - but it really wasn’t. We laughed, sang, talked about the views, and the weather, like one does, and sang some more. I gotta say, thank God Kyle brought two bottles of water and the wheat thins, otherwise, I probably would have been grazing with the deer!
Sunday, we get up and out to get to breakfast at the Old Mill Restaurant — Banana Nut Muffins and Orange juice is served to every table - WHAT?! I’m here for it. I order the gravy n’ biscuits because south, and Kyle orders pancakes! Stellar my friends, stellar indeed!
Okay — let’s go to Clingmans Dome, Kyle! Okay, Cam! Kyle says. We put it in the GPS, 23 miles away, cool! …….. 3 hours, 37 minutes… Come again?! What is this? Los Angeles?? We opted out and headed home to Nashville!
Did I mention that we had the 2018 Toyota Sequoia TRD Sport? No? Well we did and it was everything we needed for our mountains get-a-way! With its all wheel drive, Janice (that’s the Sequoias name) didn’t flinch driving up steep mountains and around winding roads!
